If you are a productivity geek you would have come across Motion AI‘s promotional video claiming that AI can plan your schedule and improve your productivity. I was a bit skeptical about it at first, so I decided to give it a try. The individual plan starts at $19/month billed annually while the business plan supports teams of up to 20 people at $12/month per user.

So this was my experience. When you first set up the app, it asks you to fill in at least 5 tasks and so I entered 5 tasks of my typical work day. As a Catholic myself, prayer is an essential part of my life and I was wondering how the AI would handle this. Motion allows you to set the due dates and duration of your tasks. Motion AI also allows you to sync your Google and Apple calendars, making sure you find all your productivity needs in one app.

Next, Motion will prompt you to select the theme you would like to use. They have a dark mode for those who like to have better eye comfort and cognitive load.

When you enter a task, you can select whether it is a one time fixed task or a recurrent task. For recurrent tasks, Motion AI will replicate that task throughout your week. You can select the status of your task, for example “to-do” and track your work progress. You can also adjust the priority of the task, from high, medium and low. Motion AI will prioritize tasks that are of a higher priority. You can also set the deadline for the task and you can also indicate if you want it to be a hard deadline. If hard deadline is selected, Motion AI will prioritize that task for you before the deadline.

After entering all my tasks, this is the schedule that Motion AI came up with. I was pretty impressed that it was clever enough to prioritize prayer and meditation at the start of the day. Motion AI was smart enough to replicate my recurrent tasks throughout the work week. It also broke down tasks with longer duration into 2 separate sessions. I also indicated a project that I was working on and it prioritized the tasks for the project way before the deadline. One thing that I wasn’t too fond of was that Motion AI scheduled my dinner at 3.30pm😲. That was way too early and I guess we have to accept the limitations of AI.

Another cool feature about Motion AI is that you can create a project workflow with AI. Enter a description of your project and it automatically comes up with a workflow for you. In my case, the project I was working on was a sponsored blog article, Motion AI segregated the workflow into Preperation, Content Creation, Review and Approval and Publication.

Motion AI is smart enough to plan your workflow throughout the week. It even tracks for you each stage of the workflow with coloured arrows. In this way, you can keep track of your progress. Additionally, Motion AI is able to generate sub tasks for you for each workflow. A pretty neat project management tool.
Overall
Overall, I would give Motion AI a 3/5. I was really impressed by how it could replicate tasks and schedule them according to their priority status. But nonetheless it still wasn’t able to recognize activities such as dinner that should take place somewhere in the evening or night. The user interface is also a bit cluttered with too much information at once and it is not as intuitive as Apple Calendars. But if you’re up for it, it is an app that can keep all your calendars, schedule and project management tools all in one place. Give it a try and see if it really helps you to boost your overall productivity.
