The 2 year war in Gaza has ravaged buildings, communications infrastructure and Gazan’s personal devices. Despite the harsh conditions, the spirit of creativity flows fervently in the blood of Gaza’s tech professionals. From ashes and rubble, Gazan’s are creating opportunities for themselves and pursuing their dreams of creative freedom. The spirit of creativity lives on.

Tech workers are piecing together their tech stack in an environment of low electricity, limited internet access and damaged equipment. Online freelancing work has become the only avenue for them to earn an income. Before the war, Gaza had a vibrant tech scene with boot camps, accelerators and hundreds of remote workers.
Shaima Abu Al Atta – “If we did not do this, we would die internally.”
With the blockade in Gaza, the flow of electronics supply has been stifled and computer technicians have been highly sought after in the days following the war. They repair equipment that have survived airstrikes and dust, piecing together computers from broken down equipment and spare parts. The price of electricity costs $12/ kw, compared to just $1.50 for 10kw before the war. Gazan’s continue to adapt and innovate, relying on solar power and the occasional connectivity to work online and send their their work to overseas clients.
Gaza Sky Geeks , a tech accelerator funded by Google in 2011 remains a source of purpose and hope for Gaza’s tech workers.
