
Airwallex has secured a major funding round from prominent investors such as Robinhood Ventures. Airwallex has been experiencing strong performance, with its annualized revenue hitting $1 billion with transaction volumes doubling year over year to $235 billion.
Airwallex will be setting up a second headquarters in San Francisco, on top of its Singapore HQ, to serve as a hub for AI development and talent. Between 2026 and 2029, Airwallex will invest $1 billion to scale its US presence. Airwallex plans to double its US staff and increase its total headcount by 50% by the end of 2026.
Airwallex has massive global reach, it now holds 80 licenses and operates across 200+ countries and has recently expanded into 12 new markets including Japan, France and Brazil.
Airwallex’s main focus in spending the acquired capital is developing “agentic finance” – the development of AI agents to automate complex financial tasks. Airwallex is moving from a tool (utility for transfer of money) to becoming a brain(managing money). Airwallex has begun rolling out its new features within its spend management platform, including agents that automate expense submissions and compliance.
CEO Jack Zhang aims to build a “borderless and intelligent” alternative to legacy banking, using proprietary data to power a fully autonomous finance department.
