The introduction of custom agents by Notion marks a significant evolution in workplace productivity, shifting AI from a reactive assistant to an autonomous team mate. It deals with the administrative burden that often stalls teams such as aligning goals, updating project statuses and routing tasks. These agents are built to handle end to end workflows that were previously too cumbersome to scale manually.
The impact of this technology is already evident. Within Notion, the number of active agents now exceeds the total headcount of its employees. This momentum is also mirrored by early adopters who have already deployed over 21000 agents to monitor channels and manage updates. Signaling a fundamental change in how teams interact with AI.
Check out the following use cases.
Ramp
Custom agents are transforming internal communications by automating the repetitive cycle of manual Q&A. By integrating directly with platforms such as Slack and Notion, these agents provide sales and support teams with instant communication feedback, liberating HR and IT teams of answering the same policy questions repeatedly.
A prime example of this in action is how agents are being deployed in Ramp. Ramp created a “Product Oracle” agent that handles dozens of daily inquiries regarding feature sets and roadmaps. This is just one of the 300 agents they have deployed so far.
Braintrust
Notion’s custom agents can eliminate the busy work of manual reporting by automating the creation of status updates and business summaries. Instead of employees spending entire days drafting briefs, the agents autonomously gathers context from internal databases, connected apps and the web to synthesize information into actionable reports. Braintrust built a Deal Spotter agent to identify accounts ready for upgrades.
Pricing
The pricing model for custom agents is designed to scale alongside a team’s automation needs, shifting toward a usage based model. Rather than changing the core subscription or seat price, custom agents will utilize Notion Credits, allowing companies to pay specifically for what they use. Custom Agents are free to explore and use until May 3, 2026. Starting May 4, 2026, they will transition to the credit-based add-on for Business and Enterprise plans.
Standard features like AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search remain included in Business and Enterprise plans.
To ensure that the AI remains predictable and secure, Notion has built a comprehensive oversight system for custom agents.
- Cost control: A dedicated dashboard tracks credit usage in real time, while proactive alerts and auto pause functions prevent unexpected expenses by stopping agents once they reach a pre-set limit.
- Operational transparency: Every action an agent takes is logged, allowing users to see what exactly triggered a task and what the outcome was. If an agent makes an error, it is completely reversible.
- Granular governance: Administrators can set strict permissions on who can build agents and what data can the agent access or edit.
- Privacy: Notion does not use customer data to train its models, and Enterprise plans include a zero data retention policy to ensure that proprietary information is not compromised.
