Startup’s sustainable plastic free, water free shampoo

Jlynn chen is in the beauty industry and was perturbed by the amount of plastic used in beauty products. She then set out on a mission to make this industry more sustainable with her plastic free, water free, vegan shampoos – thepowdershampoo.com

Their powdered shampoos come in packaging that is 100% free from plastics. Because the shampoos are water free, unlike traditional shampoos which are 80-90% water, they can be stored in recyclable aluminum or 100% recyclable and compostable paper. Each 100g bottle will save you 5 plastic bottles and their aluminum packaging can be kept for life. How sustainable is that!

Their refillable pouches are also plastic-free which are recyclable or compostable, keeping plastics out of the ecosystem.

The business adopts sustainable business practices and ensure their products are 100% vegan and cruelty free. The shampoo has a formula with botanical extracts and encapsulated essential oils. Across their product range, they use up to 25 botanically derived ingredients and 8 micro-encapsulated essential oils. Furthermore their products are free from  sulfates, silicones, parabens, phthalates and synthetic fragrances.

The company also plants one tree for every product sold, further offsetting their carbon emissions. Their aim is to plant 1 000 000 trees by 2030.
